RETURN TO THE DREAMLIKE WORLD OF THE INSTANTLY BESTSELLING DARK ACADEMIA FANTASY A STUDY IN DROWNING. . .

Effy learned that when she defeated the Fairy King. Even though she may never know exactly what happened at Hiraeth, she is free of her nightmares and is able to pen a thesis with Preston on the beloved national fairytale Angharad. She has finally earned a spot at the literature college, making her the first woman in history to enroll.

But some dreams are dangerous, especially when they come true. The entire university - and soon the entire nation - is waiting for her to fail. With the Fairy King defeated and Myrddin's legacy exposed, Effy can no longer escape into fantasy. Who is she without her stories?

With Effy under threat, Preston is surprised to discover a rage simmering inside him, ringing in his ears like bells. He begins to dream of a palace under the sea, a world where he is king - visions that start to follow him even in waking.

As the war between Llyr and Argant explodes, Effy and Preston find themselves caught in the crossfire: Effy losing her dreams and Preston losing himself in his.

Are dreams ever truly just dreams?

    Absolutely Stunning Edition

My set is complete! This goes perfectly with the first book from IC. Definitely one of my favorite special edition sets that I own. The artwork is beautiful, and it ties in perfectly with the aesthetic of the series. I really hope Illumicrate does a special edition of "An Archive Romance" so that I can have an edition that matches these beauties!

    Gorgeous edition

I got the IC edition of A Study in Drowning secondhand because I wasn't a subscriber when it was in the sub. It's one of my favourite books and also one of my favorite special editions. The sequel edition by IC is just as gorgeous. I love the cover, the edge and the endpapers. The naked hardcover is stunning as well. Just a perfect special edition!

    Moody and Gorgeous

I love that the design for these really echoes the books, sort of moody and watery. They’re lovely.

All FAQs
  • What is Illumicrate?

Illumicrate started life as a quarterly subscription box, and we're proud that we were the first UK book subscription box! We launched in the summer of 2015, and our very first box was November 2015. We now offer two options for the Illumicrate monthly subscriptions: a full box subscription and a book only subscription, which features the books included in our monthly boxes.

In 2021 we launched Afterlight, a quarterly romance subscription box that is now monthly. Evernight, a quarterly horror subscription box, was launched in July 2023. Our new science fiction book only subscription Starbright will launch in February 2025.

We also offer special editions of books and book sets, with a range of customisations exclusive to Illumicrate. We have also held virtual signings and in 2019 we launched our Debut Boxes, showcasing new debut authors. Our Collections, Archives and Mini-boxes focus on a particular author or fandom.
